Doga Enerji Esenyurt Power Station was designed and built in compliance with strict environment directives of Turkish government, European Standards, and the World Bank. Construction and operation of the power station in a way to minimize its effect on air, water and surrounding area of power station were top priorities as a part of the company’s philosophy. Consultants and experts from Istanbul Technical University carried out large-scale survey before construction of the power station, and drafted an environmental impact statement according to Turkish legislation. This statement was approved by the Ministry of Environment. Doga Enerji Esenyurt Power Station is an environment-friendly power station with clean natural gas, Dry Low Nox reducing technology and high efficiency. It means less greenhouse effect on the world’s atmosphere compared to coal power stations producing twice as much carbon dioxide per kWh. Cooling water for the power station is treated in a water-cleaning facility at the power station’s premises, and recycled to make it harmless to environment. Finally, strict noise reduction measures were taken in design of the power station.
Doga Enerji Esenyurt Power Station is one of pioneer build-operate-transfer type power stations in Turkey where foreign capital was used and international environment standards were applied. This 180MW combined cycle gas power station generates 1.4 billion kilowatt/hour electricity to meet ever growing need of Turkish economy. Total value of the investment is 173 million dollars.
CCGT technology is more effective in power generation than conventional single-cycle power stations. Gas turbines used in CCGT technology provide approximately 55% thermal efficiency compared to 37% in the most effective coal power stations. This means 45% less fuel consumption per kWh generated. Natural gas is supplied to the power station through BOTAS’s main natural gas transport pipe line from distance of 3 kilometers.
Nominal production capacity of Do?a Enerji Power Station is 180 MW. The power station is designed for central management and automatic operation with minimum personnel. The power station is designed for basic operation at approximate efficiency of 42%. It has quick stop and start capability. Three 40 MW GE Frame 6B gas turbines are connected to separate generators one by one, and opened to heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). Steam generated by HRSG supplied to 72 MW steam turbine connected to generator. When necessary gas turbines are capable of switching alternatively from natural gas to diesel oil during operation. Depot facilities contain fuel sufficient for 10 days of full load operation.
